Caring for your CTR Custom wood product.

Your unique hardwood cutting board, charcuterie platter, or flight is alive in the way it responds to moisture and temperature, and it can twist or crack if it isn't kept healthy.  CTR Wood Butter is formulated to both nourish and protect the wood, preventing twists and cracks, and helping maintain the natural vibrant beauty of the wood.

Heavily used items that are washed frequently benefit from a monthly treatment, while less frequently used items can be treated every few months. If its been a while and you notice your board is particularly dry, or feels rough to the touch, it may benefit from a more extensive reconditioning treatment. Whichever option you choose, please refer to instructions provided below.

General Care Instructions

• Clean your board with a clean, damp cloth and allow to dry completely.
• On a clean surface, spread out some parchment paper, and place the board on top.
• Apply a generous amount of CTR Board Butter to the board using a clean cloth or paper towel, and work it into all surfaces of the board, including the sides.
• Once coated, allow to sit for a minimum of an hour, but best result occur the longer you leave it. Overnight is completely fine and encouraged if possible.
• Wipe off any remaining excess with a paper towel, and buff to an even satin finish.
• Thats it! Your board is healthy and protected once more.

Reconditioning Treatment

For those situations where the general care instructions dont return your board to a 'like new' finish, and it still seems dry and dull, the following reconditioning treatment may work to restore it. You may need to find a container that fits your board, but a basic tray can be fashioned out of aluminum foil by folding the edges.

• Place your board in a shallow container, or make a tray out of aluminum foil
• Apply a generous amount of food-grade Mineral Oil and coat the board fully. It doesn't have to be submerged*, but that does help.
• Let the board absorb the oil for a few hours, then re-apply more oil.
• Repeat at least 2 more times, then wipe off any excess oil.
• Apply a generous amount of CTR Wood Butter, let sit 15 minutes, remove excess, then buff to a satin finish.
  
  *If submerging the board in oil, leave undisturbed for 18-24 hours, remove excess, and apply CTR Wood Butter for 15 minutes, remove excess then buff to a satin finish.
  
  Note: Mineral Oil can be recovered, stored and reused.
